Chichi® Garden
Interesting • Professional • Free of charge
Chichi Garden and the adjoining Chichi Shop are located near the CurAloë Plantation and the Ostrich Farm on the serene and beautiful east side of Curaçao. Visitors can tour the Garden and Shop, free of charge, and see how the Chichi sculptures are made.
At Chichi Garden the famous Chichi sculptures are produced individually. They are cast in silicon molds and made of various materials like plaster, epoxy and concrete. This is done by a team of local craftsmen, experienced in both modern and traditional techniques.
The Chichi® sculptures and other Caribbean figurines are polished, finalized and transported to the homes over fifty local artists. Here the Chichi® sculptures come to life, when they are painted in 25 beautiful Caribbean colors, by a team of talented, local (mostly) women, trained by Serena herself.
Each artist paints the Chichi® sculptures and other souvenirs in their own colorful style, but follows specific directives to guarantee a certain product consistency. Many artists have developed their skills to such an extent, that Chichi is frequently approached by clients for custom made assignments and special requests.
Chichi Garden radiates artistic energy and possesses an atmosphere of inspired multicultural cooperation. Working with a close and committed team, the Chichi® sculptures and other souvenirs blend German craftsmanship with Caribbean colors and art and carry the passion and spirit of all those who help to create them.
Chichi Garden Permaculture Design Plan
The permaculture plan for Chichi Garden aims to transform the property into a sustainable model that reflects Curaçao’s cultural richness, supports community engagement, and embodies a deep respect for nature. This plan seeks to regenerate the land, nourish the community, and demonstrate how art, culture, and ecological stewardship can flourish together.
Vision: Chichi Garden is more than a physical space. It is a soulful extension of a vision that honors heritage, craftsmanship, and belonging. The garden will become a sanctuary for education, experimentation, and renewal, designed to reflect and respond to the natural rhythms of Curaçao’s unique environment. The goal is to create a self-sustaining space that fosters biodiversity and reintroduces balance to the soil, water, and life systems.
Key Features:
Community Engagement: Chichi Garden will offer workshops, invite collaborations, and host experiences that invite locals and visitors to participate in a vision of living art and living earth. It is a space for healing, sharing, and growing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Functional Zones: The garden will include zones for medicinal, edible, and native plant species, alongside artistic and interactive spaces. Pathways will mimic natural contours to optimize water flow and reduce erosion. Rainwater catchment, greywater reuse, and renewable energy sources will support long-term sustainability.
Composting Systems: By separating green and brown waste, Chichi Garden will model a local solution to global issues like land degradation and soil depletion. The composting setup will serve the garden’s needs and act as a community learning point, showcasing regenerative waste management.
Integration with Criadero Chayen Clement: A family-led horse ranch will offer guided horseback tours through the serene landscape of Sint Joris Bay. This immersive experience will reconnect guests with Curaçao’s inland beauty while educating them about its flora, fauna, and historical landmarks.
A dedicated riding arena will host equine therapy sessions, riding lessons, and horse care education.
Regenerative Tourism: is as a model for regenerative tourism, where every visit supports conservation, creativity, and community growth. Renewable energy, rainwater catchment, and greywater reuse will be incorporated to ensure sustainability. Local youth, schools, and international guests will be welcomed to participate, learn, and co-create.
Conclusion: Chichi Garden is about cultivating hope, creativity, and resilience. It will be a celebration of life in all its forms, grounded in respect for the past, awareness of the present, and responsibility for the future. This permaculture design will create a place where land, animals, people, and purpose flourish together, offering meaningful transformation rooted deeply in Curaçao’s soil and soul.
Serena’s Art Factory is a registered concept and company. It is also the place where Serena professionally restores sculptures in plaster and stone for churches, museums, individuals and firms. The tropical garden (Chichi Garden) is used for lively open air workshops for individuals and groups, who enjoy painting the Chichi sculptures themselves.
