Work from home

Mar 26, 2020

The first week of working from home is already over. It’s a completely new experience for me and for most of us I think. I just stay at home and I install my workplace on our dining table every morning.

I miss my colleagues and my workplace with the kittens on the table at Serena’s. On the other hand, I am also very fortunate that I am able to make a nice workplace here, indoors but with a nice breeze and near my dogs and husband.

We are lucky that we live in this automated time. Calling is simply done via WhatsApp, free of charge. This also allows you to make video calls with up to 4 people. A small meeting is therefore also possible. Zoom is also a nice modern program. This is used by Chata to give webinars. Of course, you can send everything via email and photos are also easy to share. I wonder how they would have done this years ago if there was a pandemic?

As a member of Chata, Curacao Hospitality & Tourism Association, we are kept well informed of the developments every day. We followed already many interesting and useful webinars on: how to deal with marketing, what can insurance do for companies, what you can and cannot do with your workforce, and how to deal with taxes all based on the current situation.

We have set up a WhatsApp group with colleagues who work from home. This way you keep in touch with your colleagues every day and encourage each other to do the necessary work at home. Everyone can continue working until next week as we had already considered 2 weeks of work from home.

Currently, 6 corona cases are registered on Curacao. Unfortunately, 1 person has died and 2 have already been cured. This means that there are still 3 persons who have the coronavirus. Therefore, everyone is still advised to stay at home as much as possible, shopping alone and not with the whole family and not for every little thing. Go only outside to do the necessary things that cannot wait.

The airspace is still closed, slowly all tourists have left the island, so it is getting quieter on the island.

Until next week,

Greetings Hermien
