At Serena’s Art Factory, we have made it our mission to uplift and support the incredible women in our community by providing them with opportunities to earn their own income while showcasing their remarkable skills. You all know our talented Chichi Painters, mostly women, but today we would like to introduce to you Moraima Angelo of Mor Crochet. She is making traditional headscarves for our Chichi’s. Moraima Angelo, a talented artisan with a passion for crocheting, born on May 5th, 1961, in Curaçao, Moraima is not only a dedicated crafter but also a proud mother of two accomplished adult children. Moraima’s journey in the world of crochet started at a young age. However, like many of us, life’s other priorities momentarily shifted her focus away from her beloved craft. It wasn’t until 2019, just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, that Moraima rediscovered her passion for crocheting.
What sets Moraima apart is her versatility and dedication to her craft. She doesn’t limit herself to a specific set of items; instead, she thrives on the creative challenge of bringing her clients’ ideas to life. From cozy baby hats to stylish bikinis, colorful scarves, and even charming key chains, Moraima’s crochet creations know no bounds. When asked about her sources of inspiration, Moraima enthusiastically mentioned Pinterest. She scours the platform for ideas and, with unwavering determination, experiments until she achieves the desired results.
Moraima’s journey took an exciting turn during the “Kaya Kaya” festival of 2022. She had the opportunity to show her skills to the public and it was here that she had the privilege of crossing paths with Serena, the driving force behind our women empowerment initiative. Serena approached Moraima with an opportunity – to crochet headscarves for the iconic Chichi. Moraima speaks fondly of her partnership with Serena, describing her as not only friendly but also highly professional. It’s a partnership built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision of empowerment.
As we look to the future, Moraima’s hope is to see this collaboration flourish with new ideas and creative ventures.
